AmeriCorps Member Opening!

A great opportunity to work with FOLGR!  We are seeking applicants for an AmeriCorps member to join our team.  Please see the position description below and contact Renee Plourde at: to apply. 

Position Description:

            Friends of the Lower Greenbrier Watershed Organization (FOLGR) will engage one AmeriCorps member to serve starting immediately (or February 1st) through August 31st, 2015 in Monroe, Summers, and Greenbrier Counties.  The member will implement curriculum for the watershed and environmental educational programs developed by FOLGR involving in-class educational activities and field-based activities such as water quality monitoring and macro-invertebrates identification and assessments.  The member will work to strengthen organizational and/or human capacity in the watershed community by developing volunteer recruitment and retention strategies, develop service opportunities and community service events that engage community members in improving their communities.  Other duties will include: assisting with day to day operation of the non-profit organization, training volunteers, outreach to individuals and community organizations to promote FOLGR’s mission, participate in planning and executing community service events, and maintaining water quality monitoring program.  

The following skills are desired but not required: experience in K-12 education,  experience in community development, grant writing, and volunteer recruitment, experience in water monitoring, environmental education, and conservation programs, competency with GIS software, database programs, and general computer skills. Required skills: Effective communication and the ability to work independently.
